Bushwick Wyckoff Art Crawl June 2

With art crawls outdoors the aim is to celebrate art in the public space,

vitalizing the neighborhood with activities, art on display, installations and community interaction by the many local artists in the area.

Bushwick in the Jefferson Street x Wyckoff Ave area is very populated with artist studios,  an art crawl brings attention to the artists, and connects the community with the artists and the public.

The event took place at the same time with the Bushwick Collective Block party, bringing a new series of murals of street art and graffiti to the walls on Troutman and adjacent neighborhood, with music and vendors, Troutman and Scott Ave.

Artist Owned, a new committee

56 bogart windshield

Part of our mission is to create a collaborative artist group to become owners of buildings and land in the areas where we live and work:

Buildings and structures to practice, manifest and celebrate the many art forms.  Studio spaces, exhibit spaces, theaters, community centers, equipped workshop spaces, class rooms.

How many artists reading this have been pushed out of their neighborhoods, moved to more affordable and often dangerous neighborhoods, accepted difficulties in order to keep practicing their calling or desire of art and creativity.   In New York City we have watched the developments of SoHo, a previously commercial and warehouse district, Dumbo, the commercial part of Williamsburg and Greenpoint, Gowanus and now Bushwick and Red Hook.

We artists need to start OWNING our properties, so we have permanent and reliable spaces to grow our roots with, to be our anchors, our foundation to implement and grow our business aspects together with the divine mission of art.

We can do it, it simply requires collective effort and focus!!

This is a call to join the committee for “Artist owned” to study and configure approaches and strategies how artists and art related, art supportive  businesses will purchase buildings and land, raise the necessary funding for buildings to be NOT used as speculative investments but for a mainstay for the arts.

To sign up, send an email to artsinactionny@gmail.com, subject line : artist owned committee.
